What is Work Experience
A work placement is usually a short-term experience of employment. Typically, these opportunities are aimed at older pupils in schools or colleges. Placements are renowned for the development of transferable skills, including time management and communication.
Traditionally, a placement would be held at an organisation’s office or other place of work, but in recent years virtual work experience (VWEX) has quickly become another, highly-effective option.
WHY DO WORK EXPERIENCE?
We nurture a ‘can do’ mindset in young people and assist in readying them for the workplace. Work experience at Kenny Waste Management provides team-building skills, encouragement, and first-hand insights into key environment topics.
Work Experience Case Study
Julia is a local college student who has been a valued member of the team here at Kenny Waste Management since she finished school in 2021. In her role as our Commercial Waste Administrator, Julia’s hard work and dedicated attitude enable our commercial waste team to further deliver an exceptional service.
Having initially joined in order to gain work experience at our main office, Julia has shown an incredible level of commitment both to the business and to her own professional development. She has made a very positive impression, proved her value, and earned the trust of her manager.
We asked Julia what advice she would give to someone interested in gaining some work experience, and she told us:
“Don’t be afraid to just go in and ask. Take the chance.”
