Mandatory Waste Separation: By 31st March 2025, all businesses in England (except “micro-firms” with fewer than 10 full-time employees) are required to separate core recyclable materials from their general waste (Mixed Municipal Waste), several of these may be co-mingled in a single waste container:
Businesses with fewer than 10 employees have an extended compliance deadline until 31 March 2027.

The new Simpler Recycling rules establish a minimum baseline for the number of containers required for waste collections at business and non-domestic premises, ensuring consistency across all businesses.
This is the absolute minimum setup of bins required by law (for businesses producing no Glass Waste and where separate Paper & Card collections are impracticable):
