Nurturing Potential at The Lowry Academy

Our relationship with The Lowry Academy, previously known as Harrop Fold School, is built on years of trust and commitment. Some of our apprentices graduated from the school and, as our local secondary, it is especially close to our hearts.

We recognise that some young people have a personal history with irregular structure, and The Lowry Academy has a very high proportion of pupils who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Our Responsible Business Manager, Alex Mayes, is passionately working with the school, as their dedicated Careers and Enterprise Manager. He is offering exciting employment focused workshops and guidance to help the pupils figure out their next steps that would lead them to meaningful work in the future.

We’re proud to say that members of our staff will be volunteering and getting their hands dirty in the school’s veggie garden — a beautiful space, co-created by teachers and students, which helps the pupils learn about how plants grow and where their food comes from. We’re also excited to help bolster those all-important reading skills, which can make a huge difference in life and benefit them in finding meaningful work.

Phil Ince, Head of Year 8 at The Lowry Academy, told us:

“It is with great pleasure that The Lowry Academy and Kenny Waste Management have forged a close working relationship to inspire and bring the world of work to our students. Being inspired and guided by local people is tangible and real. It will help them to create their life plans and simplify the complex teenage years. We thank all staff at Kenny Waste for giving their time – it is really appreciated and will make a real impact for everyone.”

Alex Mayes, our Responsible Business Manager, said:

“By offering a range of ways to support the students in learning essential life skills, we are enabling them to realise their full potential. We’re committed to continually making a real difference alongside The Lowry Academy and are excited to see what our ongoing partnership will achieve.”

As a responsible business we are always looking for partners to help us achieve great things in the communities we live and work in. If you would like to get involved, or learn more, please get in touch.
