Building a New Community Space in Little Hulton

After seven years of planning and hard work, the new Peel Park Pavilion in Little Hulton has officially opened its doors!

This ultra-low carbon, £1m community building, funded by the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation is a game-changer for the local area, creating tangible social value by providing a vibrant space for community groups, families, and young people.

Kenny Waste Management is proud to have contributed to this fantastic project, offering both waste management support and volunteer hours alongside other businesses and individuals. Seeing the community come together to create this permanent facility has been truly inspiring.

The new building boasts a welcoming new park café and modern meeting spaces. It will host a variety of community activities, including craft and games groups, toddler and baby sessions, food clubs offering advice and services for families, and youth café sessions for teenagers. Community Little Hulton, the local charity behind the project, has worked tirelessly to create a space that brings people together and enhances wellbeing.

We want to give a big thank you to our staff volunteers who stepped up and contributed their time to the wider community project at Peel Park—come rain or shine! Read about our latest efforts here.

One of the most exciting aspects of the build was its commitment to sustainability. Dubbed one of the greenest buildings in Salford, the Pavilion was constructed using a zero-carbon, modular system called WikiHouse—a bit like an IKEA flat-pack, but for eco-friendly buildings! The simplicity of the construction methods meant that volunteers, including members of our own office team, were able to play a hands-on role in assembling the modular pieces. It was incredible to see the project take shape with so many people involved.

More than 100 volunteers from the local area played a massive role in bringing this vision to life. Back in June 2024, around 60 children from the Lowry Academy and St Edmunds RC School also lent a hand, getting construction underway.

To top it off, the photos we’re sharing were taken by our Assistant Content Designer, Hashem, who joined us through an employability programme, supported directly by CommUNITY Little Hulton, in collaboration with ForHousing. It’s great to see initiatives like this providing valuable experience for local residents looking to step into the business world and develop meaningful career pathways.

We’re honoured to have been a part of this fantastic project and look forward to seeing the impact this new space will have on the community for many years to come!
